Session 2: Capitals

This session is about Fraktur capitals: how to construct them and how to make them work with your lowercase writing. We’ll explore their shapes step by step, focusing on their organic, lively structure and the possibilities it offers for variation.

We’ll focus on:

• The main strokes and shapes used in capitals.
• How letters share structural elements and how to use these to create variations.
• Proportion and balance within individual letters.
• Combining capitals with lowercase letters.

At the end of the session, I’ll introduce your second homework assignment.
